Our program

Experience on-the-job training specifically designed and structured to enhance your professional knowledge. Our program comprises:

  • Full time or part time undergraduate positions
  • 18-month graduate program
  • Minimum of two rotations within our civil disciplines
  • Introduction to site set-out

In-house support

Our in-house support provides quarterly mentoring sessions with a dedicated member of our Senior Management Team and networking opportunities with co-workers.

Site Engineer (Civil)

We are looking to appoint a Site Engineer to join one of our successful project teams.

Ward Civil is a multi-disciplined and full-service civil & environmental engineering contractor specialising in roads, bridges, pavements, bulk excavations, remediation and utilities. With a 50 year history, we are proud of our culture, our commitment to safety and the service that we provide our clients. With offices in Sydney and Newcastle and a workforce in excess of 150, we pride ourselves on the technical capabilities of our experienced construction staff.

About the opportunity

We have projects within the Sydney civil and remediation sector and are looking to appoint a full time Site Engineer to join our growing project teams. The key objective of the Site Engineer will be to work in as part of the construction team, ensuring the successful delivery of small to large size projects.

Reporting to the Project Manager – your responsibilities will include but are not limited to;

  • Assist with the preparation of site construction budgets and reports
  • Working closely with Supervisors and Foreman to ensure work is being completed on time and to a suitable standard.
  • Coordinate and administer construction engineering activities
  • Interpret designs for implementation in construction projects
  • Monitor construction progress
  • Identify and assess project risks.

To be considered for the role you will have:

  • Civil Engineering degree
  • A commitment to safety and health for all onsite
  • 2 years relevant experience
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • The ability to communicate across all levels of the business, including client interface.

Project Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in the Transport sector and will be responsible for assisting the project manager and project team with project documentation and control, job cost accounting, scheduling, and construction supervision efforts. The role is full time.

Ward Civil & Environmental Engineering is a leading civil engineering and remediation contractor in the Sydney market with a range of top tier clients including Transport for NSW, Sydney Airport Corporation, Northern Beaches Council, City of Sydney, Western Sydney Parklands and Lendlease Building. Engineers that have extensive Earthworks experience in conjunction with Transport experience would be highly regarded. A proven track history at a Tier 2 level is preferred. Experience with utilities would be advantageous. There is the potential for the incumbent to fast track their career if they prove themselves capable of doing so.

Responsibilities will be varied and will encompass the areas of Organisation and Planning, Formal Communication, Safety in the Workplace, Environmental Controls, Quality, Human Resources and Financial.

You will

  • Assist with on-site management to ensure project success
  • Ensure project plan is moving forward to meet anticipated deadlines
  • Responsible for RFI and submittal process
  • Processes owner billings and project related accounting issues
  • Develop construction methodologies and method statements
  • Demonstrate management and co-ordination of multiple subcontractors, sometimes engaged directly by the Client
  • Develop commercial skills by managing subcontractors and reviewing and assessing claims
  • Develop site specific Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
    Qualifications
  • 2+ years engineering experience at site engineer or project engineer level
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong experience in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards
  • Experience with Earthwork or in the Transport space is a huge advantage

Ward Civil & Environmental Engineering is a highly-respected Tier 2 civil contracting company based in Sydney and has been operating for 50 years. The company undertakes a diverse range of civil engineering and environment projects and has a strong reputation for valuing our employees.

We are currently seeking a full-time Human Resource Adviser with HR related qualifications or equivalent, with at least 2 years of employment experience in a similar role. The role will be based in our Newcastle office, and we are looking for a team player with the ability to work autonomously, someone who is motivated and with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Advertising of job vacancies on the Careers page of our website and external recruitment sites and initial interviews of suitable candidates
  • Maintaining our personnel records on our human resource information system
  • Organising staff inductions including information on conditions of employment, salaries, career progress, engineering licensing and professional membership requirements etc.
  • Providing advice and information to senior staff on workplace relations policies and procedures, staff performance and any disciplinary matters
  • Receiving and recording information from management around staff vacancies such as the position description, wages and conditions of employment
  • Ensuring job vacancies are updated internally
  • Negotiating terms and conditions of employment, and managing disputes and grievances, liaising with senior management as required
  • Keeping up to date with existing and new legislation, awards, collective agreements and employment contracts, wage payment systems and dispute settlement procedures

The salary we are offering for this role is $80-90,000 plus 11%  superannuation.
