International Women’s Day 2024

Today, WARD celebrates International Women’s Day, with the 2024 theme #InspireInclusion.

International Women’s Day 2024 is a day to celebrate the achievements of women and take action towards gender parity.

In a historically male-dominated industry, WARD is committed to creating a workplace which not only includes, but also supports and enriches women in engineering and construction.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, WARD team members Vanessa Zbinden Marín and Tayla Preddey attended a breakfast hosted by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC), supported by Laing O’Rourke. ISC focused on to the experiences of women in the construction industry, particularly in sustainability. Topics included finding your voice, challenging stereotypes, combatting imposter syndrome, growing in the industry, and calling out negative behaviour. The event created a wonderful sense of community through common obstacles, goals, and values.

WARD supports a range of opportunities for young women, including the Women in Engineering and IT (WiEIT) Cooperative Scholarship and the Lucy Mentoring Program at the University of Technology Sydney, as well as Traineeships for young rugby league players, through WARD’s long standing partnership with the Sydney Roosters.

WARD continues to facilitate employment, education and development pathways for women. CEO Julia Ward stated “Currently 32% of WARD’s team are women. It is important to us that we continue to create opportunities for the development of women at all stages in their careers”, a key value of continual growth at WARD.
